Keith Blakely

Keith Blakely - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Management is led by Keith Blakely - Chief Executive Officer, a highly regarded entrepreneur who founded ART, Inc., a technology-based company in 1981 and, over the next twenty years, created an enterprise that was regarded as one of the leading innovators in advanced materials. During his tenure, the organization developed and commercialized dozens of new products, entered into numerous joint development agreements with Fortune 100 organizations, funded programs at over 15 universities and National laboratories, licensed technologies to market leaders including Mitsubishi, General Motors, and N.V. Bekaert, created three international joint ventures and strategic partnerships, acquired other technology-based organizations, and ultimately was acquired by a unit of Tyco International. Blakely has managed the technology commercialization process from idea generation through laboratory demonstration and process development, and into the commercial marketplace. More recently, he led two technology businesses - one focused on nanopowders and the other in fuel cell technologies.

Rick Berger

Richard Berger - President & Chief Operating Officer

In addition, the NanoDynamicsTM team includes Richard Berger - President and Chief Operating Officer, an experienced executive who has managed the operations of a highly diverse set of companies, ranging from an advanced materials company to the largest Coca Cola bottling company in the world. His management expertise includes start-up companies, turn-around situations, stable and mature manufacturing companies. Mr. Berger's industrial experience includes TAM Ceramics, Spaulding Composites, and Advanced Refractory Technologies, Inc. Most recently, as CEO of Speedline Technologies, a major supplier of capital goods to the electronics industry, Berger oversaw a $500 million operation, setting corporate records for productivity, profitability, and cash flow. He has developed customer and supplier relationships around the globe, including extensive experience in Europe, China, the Former Soviet Union, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.

Glenn Spacht

Glenn Spacht - Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

Complementing these talents is Glenn Spacht - Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. Spacht has over 26 years experience as an executive at Grumman Aerospace where he oversaw research and development teams of over 2000 people involved in tactical aircraft, weapons systems, electronics, and related development programs. He was responsible for program budgets exceeding $250 million and was elevated to the position of Vice President and Chief Engineer for Grumman Aerospace and Electronics in 1990. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Glenn was the Chairman of NASA's Committee on Manufacturing Technology Development. He was also named a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1995 and a Penn State Outstanding Engineering Alumnus in 2005.

Alan Rae

Dr. Alan Rae - Vice President of Innovations

Rae brings to NanoDynamics many years of experience in technology commercialization and international business. While with Cookson Group plc he was instrumental in ensuring the success of startup and developed businesses including structural ceramics, flame retardants, refractories, electronic ceramics and wafer plating systems. From 1999 to 2004 he was VP of Technology for Cookson Electronics, deeply involved in developing business opportunities for materials systems and equipment in silicon wafer fabrication, packaging, circuit board manufacture, circuit board assembly and recycling. He is Director of Research for iNEMI Inc. (the International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative), a member and past Chair of the JISSO North America Committee (facilitating electronics business worldwide by harmonizing technology roadmaps and standards), and a member of the Industrial Advisory Board of SMTA (the Surface Mount Technology Association). He is a member of the ANSI-Accredited US TAG to ISO TC229 (Nanotechnologies). Dr. Rae holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Aberdeen and a Ph.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Chartered Chemist.

William Cann

William Cann – Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

William Cann recently joined the management team as Chief Financial Officer. He brings with him prior public company experience in that position. Most recently, he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Envirosolutions, Inc., a non-hazardous solid waste disposal company based in Virginia. Before that, Mr. Cann served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cable Design Technologies, a global manufacturer of network and specialty cables (NYSE:CDT) that was acquired by Belden/CDT in July 2004. He also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Calgon Carbon Corporation, a global manufacturer of activated carbon and purification systems (NYSE: CCC). Mr. Cann holds a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Toledo.

Diane McMahon

Diane J. McMahon – General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Diane J. McMahon has represented NanoDynamics since 2004 as Corporate Counsel and was elected General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in 2007. Ms McMahon is a business attorney with a practice focused on the technology sector. She has provided legal and business consulting services to numerous entrepreneurs, inventors, early stage and high growth technology companies. She was previously a partner in the Corporate/Securities Group in the law firm of Hodgson Russ LLP, and an owner or member of the executive management team at several privately held technology companies. She is currently a founder of First Wave Technologies, Inc., a technology development company in Western New York, and a Trustee of the New York State Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation (NYSTAR).

Lavera Johnson

Lavera M. Johnson - Vice President, Human Resources

Lavera Malone was born and grew up in, St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating salutatorian from Vashon High School in St. Louis, she graduated Cum Laude from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. with a degree in Secondary Education. For one semester she attended the University of Wisconsin as a Danforth fellow in Comparative Literature before leaving to marry her late husband, Arthur C. Johnson, a fellow student at Northwest Mo. State. Mrs. Johnson and her husband moved to Queens, New York, where she attended New York University and continued her graduate studies in French Language and literature. She worked in various teaching jobs in New York City before starting her career in Human Resources in the early 70’s. After ten years as a successful professional in this field, she began and completed a Master’s Degree in Human Resources from the New School for Social Research in NYC. Her degree concentration was in Organizational Development. Mrs. Johnson has worked in health care (The Brooklyn Hospital), insurance (Amalgamated Life Insurance Co.), children’s education and entertainment (Children’s Television Workshop) and manufacturing (Buffalo based Advanced Refractory Technologies and NanoDynamics) in ever increasing roles of responsibility in Human Resources for more than 25 years. All of her work experience in HR has been in New York State. Mrs. Johnson describes herself as a social activist and in recent years has become involved as a board member with several educational and human services organizations. These include: Nichols School, Sheehan Memorial Hospital, the Workforce Investment Board of Buffalo and Erie County, and Leadership Buffalo. She is also a national member of the Society for Human Resources Professionals (SHRM). Mrs. Johnson is currently employed as Vice President of Human Resources for NanoDynamics, an advanced materials, manufacturing company, located in South Buffalo. She lives in Tonawanda, New York, with her two sons, Scott and Stephen-Alan.

Mark Modzelewski

F. Mark Modzelewski - Vice President of Strategic Opportunities

F. Mark Modzelewski joined us in May 2005 as our Vice President of Strategic Opportunities. In 2004, he co-founded Lux Research, a research and advisory firm focusing on nanotechnology. In 2003, he founded The Benet Group, a private equity firm focused on developing early stage, bio-nanotechnology companies. In 2001, he founded the NanoBusiness Alliance, the first nanotechnology trade association, and continues to serve as its Executive Chairman. Prior to the formation of the Alliance, Mr. Modzelewski served as Vice President, Business Development for Opion, a surveillance and marketing technology company, Director of Niehaus, Ryan & Wong, New York, and an account leader at Golin/Harris International. He is currently a member of the Nanotechnology Technical Advisory Group to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and previously served as a special assistant to Secretary Cisneros (HUD) and Secretary Glickman (USDA) during the Clinton administration. Mr. Modzelewski is a graduate of Boston University and received a J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law.
